Poets, Artists, Lovers by Mira Tudor

Poets, Artists

Amazon | Goodreads

3/5

I received a gift card for the value of the book in exchange for an honest review.

What is it about?

This is a snapshot in the lives of a group of friends over the period of a few years. They are all artists in one shape or form and living in Romania. They are all passionate and smart. Some of them become lovers. This book tries to follow the change in their relationships and their growth as people.

Was it good?

I would first like to state that this is not a book I would have normally read on my own.  I might have read it for a book club, which I think this book is well suited for. There are a lot of different aspects that would make for interesting discussions.

The book was a quick read, and had many interesting conversations between the characters. Also, they drank a variety of interesting tea and ate a lot of different Romanian foods.

The reason I didn’t rate it higher was mainly that I don’t think most of the characters really changed, and some of the relationships did not feel believable, although they were romantic in that regard.

Discussing it with my husband

Me: “These people are so smart, they are always talking about art, art history, philosophy. Seriously, they are discussing Plato and Aristotle! I can’t remember the last time I had an intelligent conversation like that. I’m not even sure I’m capable of it…”

Him: “What are you talking about? We talk about Play-doh all the time.”
