3/5 Spies

What is it about?

George Smiley was a spy who was forced into retirement when some young agents took control of the agency known as “the Circus”. Now, a rogue agent is claiming that there is a Russian mole in the service and Smiley is asked to quietly investigate.

Was it good?

It was okay. Honestly, I thought it was very confusing. I didn’t know who any of the characters were and with all of their different aliases and changing perspectives, it was hard figuring it out at first. I also had a hard time telling the memories from the current events. Mostly, it was a slow moving story.

I’d guess you’re just as well off watching the movie. I haven’t seen it, but my husband said he enjoyed it.

Initially, I was going to listen to the audiobook. Unfortunately my library only had an audio play complete with professional voice actors and sound effects. It was well made but it was scripted like a movie and didn’t help my addled brain figure out who was what and what was going on. Still, if you’ve read it the book before, I would recommend giving this audiobook a try.
