Audiobook Narrated by: Hope Jahren
What is it about?
This is a book that mingles fascinating facts about plants with personal stories from Hope about what it’s like to be a reseach scientist.
Was it good?
It was awesome. The science was fascinating and sometimes shocking. The personal stories invoked all the emotions: happiness, sadness, fear & anxiety, relief, comfort, etc. There are stories about her struggling because she’s a woman, and because it’s challenging to be a successful scientist in an underfunded field. She tells stories of manic depression. She tells stories of her kooky sidekick and lab partner, and many of the crazy adventures they had together while finding their path.
Each story is unexpected and enjoyable. The science makes me appreciate how hard-working these trees in my own backyard are, and make me grateful that Seattle is such a green place to live.
I would strongly recommend this book to anyone with the slightest interest in nature, or science, or struggling for success. I would recommend it for anyone looking for something different from what they are used to, and I would recommend it to anyone that is looking for themselves.
Damn. I’m sold! ❤
