What is it about?
Sarah Mackenzie is the founder of the Read Aloud Revival website and podcast. Now she has gathered all her knowledge into a quick guide on reading out loud with your children from 0 through the teens. She argues that a child is never too old to be read to and that books are the BEST way of connecting with your children and providing them with a strong foundation for success.
Was it good?
I think Sarah’s ideas about reading are very agreeable and I love the tips on discussion questions, book club atmosphere, and especially the book lists at the end of the book.
I can be a good mother, read to my children, and raise my children well regardless of religious affiliation. Sarah appears to be a very devout Christian and thus mentions God and his will all-throughout the book. I don’t feel comfortable reading about things like this and it took away from my enjoyment of the book.
Despite that, I did enjoy the book a lot and found the tips and suggestions to be helpful. I feel very motivated to keep reading to my children (now 5,3, and 1) even when they learn to read for themselves. And, I don’t feel like I need to rush into chapter books anymore.
I’ve added a ton of books to my TBR to read to the children and I look forward to the many years of happy reading for all of us.
