I started listening to this audiobook in April . The audiobook is 18 hours and 14 minutes long. It is LONG but it is also my FAVORITE Dark Tower book thus far. The characters started to come alive and the progression to the plot was interesting.
This is the series so far:
- The Gunslinger – 4/5
- The Drawing of the Three – 4/5
- The Waste Lands – 5/5
- Wizard and Glass
- The Wind Through the Keyhole
- Wolves of Calla
- Song of Susannah
- The Dark Tower
What is it about?
It’s complicated and it probably has to do with aliens. My husband says that’s how Stephen King always solves his unsolvable problems in his stories… but *I* think they are still fascinating. Anywho, basically, Roland is a “Gunslinger” which is a sort of Sheriff for the whole world who is really good at shooting guns. In this version of earth there are several dimensions/time lines/realities that are blending together and changing the shape and sometimes the history of the world. Roland, the Gunslinger, knows the solution is at The Dark Tower but he cannot get there alone.
Book 1 is about him and one of his companions, Jake, and is the start of the quest.
Book 2 is where he meets Eddie and Susannah and they join the team.
Book 3 (that I am reviewing) is where the team gets in the groove and they finally make progress toward The Dark Tower. The story has a really great pace and the chemistry between the characters feels real. The crazy bad guys are super spooky. I felt the full range of emotions while listening to this book.
Also there is a talking dog-like creature that just steals your heart. I wish my dog was as smart as that bumbler. ❤
I would recommend this series for any fans of Stephen King, epic quests, western themes, riddles, evil wizards, or evil trains and computers.
